Govt appoint Aer Lingus CEO as chairman of An Post

The Minister for Communications, Pat Rabbitte, has announced that the CEO of Aer Lingus, Christoph Mueller, is the new chairman of An Post.

Minister Rabbitte said: "The Government this morning agreed to appoint Mr Mueller to chair this important state company at a critical time in the company’s future.

"An Post has a great brand and an important nation-wide network. It provides very important services to communities throughout Ireland."

The Minister recognised that the State company faces significant challenges in the internet era.

He said: "The company will benefit from the strategic leadership approach that Christoph Mueller has brought to Aer Lingus. I am also sure that Christoph, who played a leadership role in Deutsche Post and DHL before joining Aer Lingus, will bring a valuable international perspective to the Board of An Post."

An Post has a turnover of around €800m and employs 9,000 people.

Mr Mueller is expected to remain in his role at Aer Lingus.
