EC praises Govt’s handling of Irish public finances

The European Commission has praised the Government's handling of Ireland's public finances.

In its latest assessment of the budgetary policies of individual EU member states, the commission says Ireland has sound budgetary strategies that comply with the Stability and Growth Pact.

However, it also warns that measures are needed to address the long-term budgetary implications of the ageing Irish population.
