CSO figures reveal boost for new car sales

More than 100,000 new cars were licenced in the first eight months of the year.

It is the first time that figure has been reached in any year since 2008.

The CSO says the number of new cars on the road increased by 38% in the 12 months to August.

Fewer used cars were imported from abroad for licencing - that number fell by 14%.
