Aldi plans 400 more jobs in €100m expansion

Aldi has promised to hire 400 new staff over the next three years.

The discount supermarket is planning a €100m expansion here.

Twenty new stores will be built early next year, with more on the way before the end of 2017. A number of other stores will be expanded.

Aldi first opened its doors in Ireland in 1999 and now employs more than 3,200 people in 128 stories in this country.

Aldi has seen growth of more than 6.6% year-on-year to capture 11.3% of the Irish grocery market.

The chain introduced the ‘Living Wage’ on February 1 this year for all entry level positions, with store employees earning up to €13.80 per hour.

In a statement today, Aldi said store managers will have a starting annual salary of €55,000, rising to €80,000 for a five-day, 45-hour week. They will receive five weeks’ paid holidays, private health insurance upon commencement and membership of a company pension scheme after three years.

Area managers positions have a starting salary of €61,000 rising to €95,750 over four years, and a fully expensed Audi A4.
