60 jobs at risk in Longford

60 jobs may be under threat at the Cameron plant in Longford Town.

All 270 staff at the company were called into a meeting this afternoon, and were told the company is seeking up to 60 redundancies and also a possible reduction in working hours.

Cameron designs and manufactures products for the global oil and gas industry; its Longford plant is among 250 worldwide.

Local Fianna Fail representative Connie Geraty-Quinn, who is an election candidate, has said staff want to know what will happen next: “This news came as a bolt out of the blue for many people and I suppose it was also mentioned as well that there was a reference with regard to reducing working hours,

“However it is not clear if this is just an interim response to maybe a downtown in business or how long it is going to last.

“However, on the back of what has been disclosed to the public, it is essential that first of all clarity is given, good communication is essential in this situations.”
