50 jobs on the line at Co Longford factory

More than 50 jobs are on the line at a pet-food factory in Co Longford.

C&D Foods in Edgeworthstown has begun a 30-day consultative period with staff about the ongoing reorganisation of the company.

The move follows 29 redundancies announced at the end of March.

The company is blaming higher wages, infrastructure costs and the ongoing weakness of sterling.

Management is to meet with SIPTU reps tomorrow to explore all possibilities regarding alternative employment, but it says a decision to cease production in the area where the jobs are located is final.
