Brosna hold a firm grip

AIB Munster Club JFC: Brosna (Kerry)1-10 Millstreet (Cork) 0-8

Not for the first time this year Brosna’s defensive strategy proved the match for a talented attacking outfit.

With Michael Vaughan and Mark Ellis looking a cut above the rest, Millstreet raced into a three point lead through Vaughan, Brian Sheahan and Denis Kiely by the sixth minute.

But the Kerry champions were settled by a fortuitous goal in the 10th minute when a Tom McGoldrick free came back off the crossbar into the waiting arms of full-forward Mike Finnegan who found the net. Then the Brosna defence and midfield began to win the key battles and with McGoldrick punishing indiscipline there was only going to be one winner, particularly after Millstreet midfielder Patrick Coleman was black-carded midway through the first half.

The Cork champions tried to put the squeeze on the North Kerry side but with McGoldrick and former Kerry minor Adam Barry always a threat, the hosts had a bit to spare at the final whistle.
