There will be new Longford SFC champions crowned in October after reigning champions Emmet Óg were beaten 0-13 to 0-10 by Longford Slashers.
Slashers were defeated in last year’s final, with the Killoe side stopping their quest for three in a row, and they made a terrific start by taking the lead inside the opening five minutes.
Emmet Óg’s first point came in the eighth minute but they were dealt a massive blow when midfielder Simon Kiernan was sent-off.
After going in at the break three points behind, Emmet Óg started the second half well and were level in the 40th minute. But that was the closest they could get to Slashers and they ended the game with 14 men themselves after Trevor Clendenning received a second yellow.
The first big surprise in the championship came on Saturday when Colmcille knocked Clonguish out in the quarter-final.
Colmcille now play Longford Slashers in the last four.
Last night’s first relegation play-off saw Ballymahon beat Fr Manning Gaels 0-15 to 1-7.
