Gardaí confident they know killers of crime boss

GARDAÍ are confident they have identified the killers of crime boss "Marlo" Hyland and innocent bystander Anthony Campbell.

Martin Hyland, 37, was murdered in a double-homicide at his niece’s home in Finglas, north Dublin, last December.

Mr Campbell, 20, who was a plumber doing a job in the house at the time, was also shot dead by the assassins, most likely to rule him out as a possible witness.

"We’re making significant progress... and would be reasonably happy we know who did it," said a garda source.

The murder of Mr Campbell, a completely innocent party, caused particular anger in the community.

A major garda investigation was set up, during which a large number of associates of Hyland were tracked down and interviewed.

Gardaí suspect Hyland was killed by lieutenants within his own gang.

They have not yet arrested anyone as part of their investigation, but gardaí have carried out a number of searches.

Senior officers are waiting until they have gathered all their evidence — including forensic evidence — before they move on the suspects.

Hyland from Cabra, north Dublin was suspected of supplying the weapon used in the murder of Latvian mother Baiba Saulite in Swords, north Dublin, last November.
