Top gardeners can win €500
The Royal Dublin Society’s new allotment awards recognise the hard work, dedication and attention to detail of those involved in allotment gardening. A first prize of €500 and an RDS Silver Medal, €300 for the runner-up, and €200 for a third placed entrant will be awarded in two allotment gardener two categories – experienced, and novice.
The awards also recognises the work of allotment providers such as local authorities, allotment societies, community gardening groups or individuals providing allotments. The winner of this award will receive €1,000 and an RDS Silver Medal.
RDS Committee of Agriculture chairman Jim Flanagan said, “The RDS Allotment Awards are intended to encourage standards of excellence in allotment gardening and to promote bio-diversity, which is vitally important, in that it provides significant economic, environmental, health and cultural benefits to Ireland”.
