Happy to leave the fancy work to his more celebrated team-mates during an international career for Brazil that spanned more than a decade, Dunga, an industrious midfield anchorman, was far more concerned with donkey work and industry than flair and guile.

Fast forward a decade and he adopts the same approach in management. He is happy to forsake footballing flair for results but although it has not won him too many friends, particularly in the demanding Brazilian media, it might just win him the World Cup.
