Daddy Donncha back in training

Munster lock Donncha O’Callaghan was back training yesterday after the birth of his second child in the early hours of Saturday morning.

O’Callaghan withdrew from the Munster team to play Benetton Treviso on Friday at Thomond Park following the admission of wife Jenny to Cork University Hospital. Daughter Anna was born a few hours later, the couple’s second child.

“You’d know it was a girl,” O’Callaghan joked yesterday. “If it was a boy he would have dug in and held out for his old fella so he could have got out to the game! But it’s great, they’re both fine, it’s great.”

O’Callaghan, available again for Friday’s RaboDirect Pro12 game at Ulster, thanked Munster Rugby.

“They didn’t even think about, it was just ‘you need to be there with them’.

Niall (O’Donovan, Munster team manager) had a great line, he said ‘We’ve loads of players, you’ve only one Jenny, so look after her’. That meant a lot to me but then again that’s sign of this place.”
