This one looks right up Warwick Avenue’s street

Warwick Avenue, an ordinary horse by Ballydoyle standards, can land the nap in The Irish Times Maiden at theCurragh tonight.

He showed nothing in one outing as a juvenile, but his two efforts so far this season have been much better.

The selection began on this track earlier in the month, finishing less than two lengths fifth behind John Oxx’s Vedani.

Then three days later he made a quick reappearance at Fairyhouse and went off a well-backed 13-8 favourite.

For most of the mile and a half journey Warwick Avenue looked set to deliver, however he weaved about a bit in the straight and had no answer to another Oxx inmate, Hay Point, eventually going down by two lengths.

He handled the soft ground with aplomb, as you would expect of a son of Montjeu, and the likely testingsurface now and dropping back two furlong in trip can work in his favour.

Joseph O’Brien partners Warwick Avenue for his father, Aidan, and the pair also have prospects withWonderful (Sycamore Lodge Equine Hospital Maiden) and Where (The Irish Field EBF Fillies Maiden).

Wonderful, a promising two-year-old, made her seasonal debut at Gowran Park in early May and, despite going off a slight odds-on shot, was somewhat uneasy in the market.

She ran far too free in front and had little left through the final two furlongs, trailing in a poor fourth behind the impressive Caponata.

It is more than possible the daughter of Galileo will strip far fitter now and this does not look overly competitive.

O’Brien senior runs three in The Irish Field Maiden, including Giant’s Causeway’s half-sister, Hanky Panky.

But riding arrangements tell us that Where, who is by Galileo out of the former Newmarket 1000 Guineas winner, Virginia Waters, is the right one.
