Hezmah ready to go one better

Hezmah would appear sharp enough to win the BetVictor For Euro 2012 Handicap at Yarmouth today.

The four-year-old Oasis Dream filly was narrowly denied by Close To The Edge on firm ground at Newcastle on May 31 – her first start since last August – for which she has risen just 1lb.

John Gosden’s runner also handles cut in the ground, as evidenced at Goodwood last season, and was arguably the moral winner at Gosforth Park as Tadhg O’Shea perhaps delayed his challenge until it was too late.

L’Ami Louis looks her biggest danger at the summit of the weights, but the Hamdan Al Maktoum camp must surely be expecting her to gain redemption by the seaside.

Barkston Ash made a sudden return to form at Hamilton last week and is worthy of support back at the Lanarkshire circuit.

The Eric Alston-trained four-year-old had shown next to nothing since winning at Warwick 11 months ago – the last of four victories in 2011 – but is now back at an appealing mark.

Barkston Ash is now rated 3lb inferior than when he was successful last July and is clearly on the comeback trail judged by his game second over course and distance last Tuesday. Home
