Hamilton four-timer for Hanagan
Fresh from partnering his first British Group One winner on Mayson in last weekend’s July Cup, Hanagan yet again teamed up with his former boss Richard Fahey to great effect as the Malton handler provided three of the four winners.
Hanagansaid: “It’s great to be back,” he said. It’s a place I’ve always clicked with over the years – although I’ve had a bit of stick off the lads in the weighing room, they were calling me a southern softie!”
Sparkling Portrait (11-8 favourite) had a bad experience at Royal Ascot when he was nearly brought down in the King George V Stakes, but in a smaller field he got the better of a battle with Goldoni by three-quarters of a length.
Fahey’s Ginger Goose (7-4 favourite) had finished second on his debut and went one better in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Stakes, just beating Dr Phibes.
Double Cee (6-1) ran out a good winner of the totepool.com Handicap for the Fahey-Hanagan team.
The reason Hanagan was principally there was to ride Michael Stoute’s Mawaqeet (5-2) and the first-time visor did the trick for him.
