Dreamscan go one better

Paul Deegan’s Desert Of Dreams is the nap choice to land a fascinating little seven-runner Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden at Leopardstown tonight.

He made a really good start on this track two months ago and has since been given lots of times to mature.

The selection was nibbled at in the market, he went off 8-1 third favourite, before finishing a length and three parts second behind Aidan O’Brien’s heavily-backed Forester.

That winner hasn’t been seen in the meantime, but Move To Strike, who was a head further away in third, subsequently won by nine lengths at the Curragh.

O’Brien now runs two here, the Holy Roman Emperor newcomer, King Of The Romans, and almost certainly a far bigger threat in Theatre.

Joseph O’Brien partners Theatre and he is bred to be a champion, being by Galileo out of the Group 1 winning mare, Rumplestiltskin.

Theatre, despite only managing seventh of 12 behind stable companion, Lines Of Battle, at the Curragh, caught the eye then under Ryan Moore and has to be respected.

But Desert Of Dreams looked to be a colt of real potential first time up and, with an extra furlong to cover, gets the vote.

John Oxx’s Alanza, running over what seems to be her ideal trip, seven furlongs, can take the Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes.

The four-year-old began her campaign over a mile at the Curragh when third behind Emulous and One Spirit, giving the impression she would come on plenty for the outing.

One Spirit has since scored at Naas and Alanza is now fancied to reverse placings, on the same terms.

David Wachman’s Fire Lily gets a hopeful nod in the other Group 3 on the programme, the very competitive Ballyogan Stakes.

A classy sort when on song, too much use was made of her when sixth to Tiddliwinks at the Curragh and, hopefully, more restraint will be exercised on this occasion. Home
