Dramatic success for Muck ‘N’ Brass

Muck ‘N’ Brass completed doubles for Eddie Lynam and Wayne Lordan when landing yesterday’s finale at Dundalk, the featured Irish Stallion Farms August Handicap, in dramatic style.

Back to the scene of his bizarre exit from a mile handicap last month, when swerving, colliding with the rail and unseating his rider, Muck ‘N’ Brass appeared in command yesterday until ducking right close home and almost throwing away the handsome pot of €29,250.

But, luckily for Lynam, Lordan and supporters of the 14/1 shot, Muck ‘N’ Brass held on by a head from Sindjara, with his stable-companion Iron Major third.

A delighted Lynam summed-up: “He’s a very good horse, a stakes horse, even if he’s not entirely straight-forward.”

The competitive-looking, six-furlong two-year-old maiden provided Lynam with the first leg of his double as debutante Yulong Baoju, prevailed over Quadriga and Three Sea Captains in a three-way photo-finish. The winner was ridden by Fran Berry.

A delighted Lynam said: “She’s the business! I thought it was a big ask in such a hot maiden, but she was very professional and could be nice. She’s my first winner for her Chinese owners and is a filly we’ve always liked, although it took a long time find a name for her.

“She seems natural enough and should improve. I’m hoping she’s a stakes filly. We might look at something like the Round Tower or Blenheim at the Curragh for her.”

Delighted to be back at Dundalk, Ger Lyons also completed a double, sharing the honour with former champion apprentice Emmet McNamara, thanks to the victories of top-weight The Reaper in the six-furlong Bar One Racing Mourne Handicap and debutante Seeking Luck in the Irish Stallion Farms Median Auction 2-Y-0 Fillies Maiden. Relishing the return to a fast surface, The Reaper defied the welter burden of 10-3 in the Spring handicap.Home
