Seven of last night’s champions will go to a final Olympic qualifier for European boxers in Trabzon, Turkey (April 13-22) with the following positions up for grabs: Light flyweight (only semi-finalists qualify); Lightweight (only semi-finalists qualify); Light Welterweight (only gold medallist will qualify); Welterweight (only finalists qualify); Light heavyweight (finalists and loser to the gold medallist in the semi-finals); Heavyweight (only the gold medallist will qualify); Super heavyweight (only the finalists will qualify).
Should any Irish boxers qualify they will join Michael Conlan, John Joe Nevin and Darren O’Neill at the London Olympics.
The high-performance squad under Billy Walsh will relocate to a training camp in the Curragh next month to prepare for the qualifying tournament.
