Tafari remains the one to beat

Tafari is the nap selection to land tonight’s third semi-final of the O’Riordan Brothers’ Tarmacadam A3 Tri-Distance.

Tom O’Neill’s bitch brought her form to a new level when leading all the way to record 28.30 in the opening round of this stake and if she can get away like she did last week, she ought to lead all the way once more.

The second semi-final of the same stake looks a match between Rockybay Jacko and Tafari’s kennel companion, Lahern Dancer, with preference for the first-named.

Lahern Dancer ran out a smooth winner from a poor draw in last week’s opening round and looks better housed here but Rockybay Jacko ran a huge race in defeat in his heat and is preferred.

Kieran Lynch’s dog had to hurdle one of his rivals between the opening bends and despite losing valuable ground in attempting to do so, he ran a remarkable race to finish within three lengths of winner Sogo Storm. The step up to 550 yards won’t be a problem and if he can get around the bend unscathed this time, he should prove very hard to hold.

Blue Jet Sky produced a career-best effort when leading all the way in the first round and she can follow up in the opening semi-final. John Kiely’s bitch broke better than she ever had done and the writing was on the wall early. While it’s unreasonable to expect that she can trap like that again, she does not necessarily need to do so. Each step up in trip should suit her more and her stamina can see her to the fore again.

Fleetwood Taxi impressed when coming from behind to get the better of a strong stayer in the heats and he rates a genuine threat. Home
