Cashen can gain control early

With the start of the Ladbrokes.com Derby only days away it’s no surprise tonight’s card at Shelbourne Park is rather low key. As of yesterday afternoon there were 92 confirmed for the Derby with entries closing tonight after racing.

Tonight’s feature is the final of the €3,000 Bernard Barry Bookmaker Quick Result A1. The six semi-finals were run on Wednesday with only the winners progressing. Graham Holland is responsible for half the line up: Riverside Cashen, Rockburst Saint and Murralli Junior. Semi-final form suggests Hot Pursuit is the one to beat but he faces a terrible draw in five. Instead Riverside Cashen gets the nod to assume control in the early stages.

Elsewhere on the card, Tyrur Sugar Ray and Barefoot Allstar hold outstanding chances in their respective races.

Meanwhile, at Dundalk the speed merchants line out in the second round of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup. The outstanding run of the opening round came from Plunkett Matthews’ Ballyhill Sub and he should again emerge triumphant in the first heat, where Town Ruffian stands out as the main threat.

Thurles features the two semi-finals of the Thurles Fresh Milk Tipperary Cup.

Shaneboy Spencer is a likely pace-setter in the opening semi and can make amends for recent defeats by leading home Rackethall Woods.

The two fastest quarter-final winners, Tarbrook Tornado and Matching Tommy, clash in the second heat with a narrow vote goes to Tarbrook Tornado, who looks perfectly housed in the stripes.
