Lawyer for Karadzic

Saturday, November 21, 2009

FORMER Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has had a British lawyer appointed to represent him at the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal.

The UN court said yesterday that Richard Harvey, who has experience in The Hague representing suspects from Kosovo will step in if Karadzic continues to boycott his trial when it resumes in March.

The decision appears unlikely to break the stalemate that led to the adjournment of Karadzic’s trial just days after it began last month when he refused to attend court, saying he needed months more to prepare his defence.
