Irish-American teen Hannah makes history

A 14-year-old golf sensation whose grandparents hail from Ireland, has become the fourth youngest in the history of the event to qualify for the US Women’s Open.

Hannah O’Sullivan, who lives in Cupertino, California, will be the youngest competitor in the event which takes place at the Black Wolf Run club in Kohler, Wisconsin this week.

Two years ago Hannah qualified for the amateur US championship and came through to the match play stage.

“This will be my first time competing against the professionals and I am very excited and looking forward to doing so,” she said after qualifying with a one-under-par 143 — including nine birdies — at a regional qualifier at the Half Moon Bay Club in California.

Hannah is the only child of Greg and Sarah and her grandmother, Ina O’Sullivan, formerly Nunan, is a native of Lattin in Co Tipperary, and resides in San Francisco.

Her late grandfather was John L O’Sullivan from Mount Fox, Kilmallock.
