Tomás set to make history

Tomás Ó Sé will this evening eclipse his brother Darragh and set a new record for most All-Ireland senior football championship appearances with 82.

However, as Ó Sé warns, a couple of his younger team-mates are not too far behind him.

Brother Marc makes his 68th SFC appearance against Limerick while Colm Cooper lines out for his 70th, equalling former Dublin goalkeeper John O’Leary’s number.

Cooper also needs just three more points to break the all-time Championship scoring record set by Mikey Sheehy (29-205).

The Dr Crokes man has currently amassed 18-236.

Behind Tomás and Darragh, Tom O’Sullivan is the next most capped footballer in history with 76.

Incidentally, Tipperary’s Brendan Cummins has the most Championship appearances with 86 — 70 hurling and 16 football.
