Thumbs-up for Thurles

An adult stand ticket for next Saturday’s All-Ireland qualifier triple-header in Thurles will cost €25.

Terrace admission is €20 and U16s can gain entry to either stand or terrace for €5 while there are concessions available from participating county boards.

The three Munster counties involved in phase three hurling qualifiers have all reacted positively to Semple Stadium being chosen as the venue for the two fixtures. After they were drawn together, the GAA yesterday announced Clare and Limerick will top the bill with a televised game at 7pm.

That will be preceded by Cork v Wexford at 5pm and the round two football qualifier between Tipperary and Wexford, which had an original 5pm start-time, now moved to 3pm.

With neutral venues the norm for this stage of the qualifiers, Limerick chairman Liam Lenihan said they had no issue with the game being played in Semple Stadium.

“Naturally, we’d prefer if it was possible that the game would be played in Limerick but we have no complaints with Thurles.”

After yesterday’s phase three draw was made on TV3, there were rumours of the game being played in Killarney but they didn’t come to pass.

“The stakes are high, the rewards are high and if you can’t play in Thurles then you can’t play anywhere,” said Clare PRO Syl O’Connor.

Cork PRO Tracey Kennedy anticipates good support for the game.

“We enjoy playing there so we’re happy with the venue. We would certainly hope to get a good crowd travelling to the game.

“The hurlers always have good support and there were 10,000 watching the Offaly game in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday.”

As a result of Limerick hurlers’ qualifier being staged at 7pm on Saturday, the county footballers’ away qualifier against Longford has been brought forward from 7pm to 2pm.Home
