Limerick lose out again
The GAA’s management committee heard last Friday that the match bans, which had been incorrectly, albeit unknowingly administered during both National League competitions, were handed down in good faith by the Central Competitions Control Committee and nothing more will come of the matter.
Limerick had written to Croke Park seeking clarification on the legitimacy of the player’s involvement in the game, while careful not to blame Dublin.
Ryan was sent off for a straight red card offence against Limerick on March 16 and served a one-match ban.
However, according to a ruling made by the Central Appeals Committee (CAC) in the case of Longford footballer Barry Gilleran, time-based bans should have applied to the leagues.
The CAC’s decision freed up Lar Corbett and JJ Delaney to play in Tipperary and Kilkenny’s Championship openers next month despite both being sent off in the Division 1 final earlier this month.
Consequently, Ryan should have been suspended for four weeks and therefore sidelined for the game in Thurles in which he scored 1-8.
A circular was issued to management committee members confirming Dublin’s promotion to Division 1A stands.
