The Avondhu side led by three points at the turn (0-6 to 0-3) but corner-forward Ian Guiney dragged Rockchapel back into the tie with his fisted goal on 40 minutes after great work from Liam Collins had been thwarted by Mitchelstown keeper Luke Hannah.
Guiney’s goal was a game changer and with Mitchelstown not scoring in the second half, the county champions took control of proceedings.
