Kennelly to run rule over AFL hopefuls during Tallaght trial

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

The AFL will step up its recruitment drive of young GAA talent when it holds a trial in Dublin tomorrow.

It’s understood a crop of teenage Gaelic footballers have been asked to attend the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght for a skills trial hosted by AFL ambassador Tadhg Kennelly and Ben McCormack, the general manager of the AFL in Europe.

The camp will track the progress of players who attended a similar trial in Limerick last October.

A number of scouts from top AFL clubs are expected to attend with the young GAA stars assessed for their kicking ability as well as speed and agility.

Last year’s Dublin minor dual star Ciaran Kilkenny was offered a contract by the Carlton club after last October’s trial and the Castleknock 18-year-old Leaving Cert student will be among those attending tomorrow.
