Cute house scores at the Cross

On the market for €75,000, 3 Maiville Terrace, Turners Cross, Cork may be in need of future investment, but its location makes it a steal for a starter home, as Rose Martin reports

When an auctioneer’s brochure suggests a property is in need of full refurbishment, it means A: it’s not in great shape and B: money will have to be spent. But in the case of 3 Maiville Terrace, Turner’s Cross, the starting price reflects the need for future investment.

The little terraced, two-bed is on the market at €75,000 through Timothy Sullivan andAssociates and a cash buyer prepared to sign on the dotted line, could find it might sell for less. It’s in a state of grace in terms of layout — all of the old features are still in place, save a few exceptions.

It has its original front door with period ironmongery, old tiles on the entrance hallway, cast iron fireplace in one room and a casement-windowed dormer on the upper-floor which should be retained. And the ground floor window is also sashed, and sits in a limestone and brick facade in a row of similar houses. The location is going to suit a young couple working in the city or suburbs and the house is a short walk from town. No 3 has two living rooms and a kitchenette extension with bathroom off. Overhead, there are two interconnecting bedrooms.

VERDICT: Huge scope here for young buyers with a bit of imagination and the location is superb. Home
