Time to shell-out on Rafeen project that will require plenty of energy

There’s quite a package on offer here for those who want a country-style home, yet be close to amenities at this affordable Rafeen property purchase.

Why? Because the house needs renovation, lots. Think building project, with the existing house as a template.

A decent, four-square block of a two-storey house, just a bit shy of 2,000 sq ft, this place comes on a site of 0.8 of an acre, with garage and outbuildings, by Rafeen creek and Shanbally — with the larger centres of Monkstown and Carrigaline a few miles off in opposite directions.

Just to the south of this house is the compact Rafeen Creek golf course and beyond that again the massive Pfizer plant sprawls its way along the shoreline heading up to Ringaskiddy village and the ferry terminal, and there are water/harbour views from the property.

It’s only on the market a week or so, and is already under offer, but shy of its €195,000 asking price via Ann O’Mahony of Sherry FitzGerald.

She stresses it’s far from a walk-in job: in fact, bring steel-tipped boots and a hard hat, as it needs just about everything done, she advises, including re-roofing.

As it stands, it has three respectably-sized reception rooms plus kitchen, utility and WC, and overhead are four bedrooms all with fireplaces.

VERDICT: A project that will pay dividends for those with a bit of energy.
