RTÉ role in Eucharistic Congress criticised

How astonishing it was to see top RTÉ broadcasters profess support for the Catholic Church at the Eucharistic Congress.

It must have completely slipped Joe Duffy’s mind that he spends a great deal of his time bringing out child abuse stories against the Church on his radio show. How can a person who is effectively relaying child abuse accounts to the public stand up on a Catholic stage before a religious organisation with zero credibility and orate its teachings, given all those who have called his show with horrific accounts of criminal activity against children?

We also had household figures who broadcast the news glowing with Catholicism who have obviously forgot all about the child abuse stories that we continue to hear in our living rooms on a monthly basis and their life-changing impact on victims.

Are they, too, oblivious to the parallel universe in which they live and work and the double standards that they espouse?

It is remarkable that RTÉ had such a high profile at the Eucharistic Congress given the fact that they are the main media organisation heading up child abuse accounts in the Catholic Church.

It is one thing for RTÉ to televise the event. However, it is quite another to be providing compères that got very carried away.

The big question is: do they think nobody is going to notice?
