Positive Congress

Your opinion piece on “Faith in society” (Jun 18) was a very welcome piece of journalism, given the extremely poor and generally negative view taken of the Eucharistic Congress by the national media.

The opportunity for the media to describe the views, events, workshops, atmosphere of faith and hope, along with the vibrant participation of people from 120 countries, was lost by the very narrow perspective religious affairs correspondents took of the Congress. So it was a welcome relief to see the positive coverage of the 80,000 pilgrims who attended Croke Park.

Evelyn Ring summed it up so well: “It was a joyous end to a memorable week for Catholics from all over the world.”
