MIGHT Environment Minister John Gormley, in a compromise that would allow him focus on the pressing matters of the day, allow the Ward Union Hunt to chase bank executives of a certain vintage?
Of course the exemption would also have to apply to all suitably qualified individuals, fox and mink packs, foot beagles and even the better quality open coursing greyhounds.
As so many bankers have already gone to ground a certain amount of digging out might be needed, thereby involving terriermen.
There is such a democratic ring to this proposal I cannot see how Mr Gormley and his colleagues, one more in touch with the feelings of the nation than the other, might oppose it.
