We are writing in reply to Tony Humphreys’ article in your recent Feelgood edition.
Having worked with students with Asperger’s syndrome and their parents, we totally refute Tony Humphreys’ assertion that the parents are devoid of "love, affection, patience, warmth, tenderness, kindness and calm responses..." The parents we have met over the years show an admirable dedication to the welfare of their children and there is no "absence of expressed love and affection and emotional receptivity". These parents are as caring and loving as any other parent and to say otherwise does them a grave dishonour.
