It was designed in response to “these radical changes in living needs and the difficult global economic trend”. It’s typical of the awesome design ideas showcased on this site that focuses on interior design and architecture. There’s also a denim fridge by Smeg on there that might just blow your mind.

2. Architecture Awards. The RAIA Public Choice Award shortlist for 2012 is now open. Log on and have your say on which project wins. The award, says the RIAI, is its way to communicate to the public the variety and quality of contemporary Irish architecture and to promote design quality amongst its members. Fota’s enclosed frameyard and glasshouse restoration is a contender, as is a remodel of a 25 sq m fisherman’s cottage in Co Wexford.

3. Gray Pants Imagine two boyos in Seattle rummaging around the streets for cast off cardboard. Then they make lights with the stuff and set up a website to sell the result for quite a lot of money. That’s how I like to think it started anyway. Graypants prefer to call themselves a conceptual design studio that “responsibly creates products, architecture, and other fun things around the world”. Fair enough, their Scrap Lights are very cool either way.
