Antique fairs proving ever more popular

ANTIQUE fairs have grown in importance in Ireland with the recession.

As the number of antique shops has reduced, fairs have become a vital resource for sellers and buyers.

The National Antique and Art Fair at the South Court Hotel in Limerick today and tomorrow is one of the biggest.

There is a wide selection of furniture, art, jewellery, silver, ceramics, glass, vintage and collectible items in all price ranges.

More than 70 dealers from around Ireland have assembled in Limerick this weekend, including 15 members of the Irish Antique Dealers Association.

A fair like this one, organised by Hibernian Antique Fairs, enables treasure hunters to find a wide variety of pieces readily assembled in one location.

Antique furniture dealers, for example, are present from Wicklow, Clare, Belfast, Cork, Limerick, Leitrim and Mayo. There are art dealers and galleries from Dublin, Athlone, Galway and the UK, jewellery and silver dealers from the length and breadth of the island along with a huge selection of porcelain and collectibles, coins and banknotes, lighting, clocks, watches, books and vintage items. Opening times are from 11am to 6pm today and tomorrow.
