Trend of the week: Perfect party dress

Inspiration

Whatever the celebration, we’ve got a dress to fit your body shape. Top heavy, bottom heavy, skinny or curvy – figure out your figure and get ready to party!

Style Notes

PEAR

Small boobs, long waist, flat tummy, saddlebags, heavy legs. Keep saddlebags hidden by showing off some shoulder and use belts to highlight a small waist. Look for a fluted hemline or volume at the ankles/leg to balance out hips.

Best shapes: A-line; wrap; trapeze or empire cut.

HOURGLASS

Big breasts and hips, small short waist, ample thighs.

Opt for fitted styles and snug tailored pieces in block colour. Avoid fussy detail at the bust and aim for a flattering sculpted neckline. Best shapes: Shift, wrap or bodycon.

APPLE

Big tummy, average size breasts and legs, flattish bum. Pattern and texture are best for hiding a big stomach. Draw the eye away from the centre of the body with strategic draping and a raised hemline to showcase those legs. Best shapes: Wrap, side tie, drop waist, mini to knee length.

COLUMN

Equal shoulders and hip width, slight waist, long legs. Create the illusion of curves by using ruffles, peplums or angular details. Divide a long torso with layering, colourblocking or a matching skirt and top instead.

BEST SHAPES

Mermaid dress, asymmetric shoulder dress, body-con.
