Crawford Art Gallery appoints Mary McCarthy as new director

The Crawford Art Gallery in Cork has appointed Mary McCarthy as its new director.

West Cork native Ms McCarthy replaces Peter Murray, the long-term holder of the position who had retired earlier this year.

Ms McCarthy is currently director of the National Sculpture Factory in Cork, and is also chairperson of Culture Ireland's expert advisory committee.

She had previously served as deputy director of Cork 2005 when the city was European Capital of Culture, and as cultural manager of Dublin Docklands Development Authority.

She is expected to take up the position early in 2018.
