Victim had survived mall shooting last month

One of the 12 victims of yesterday’s Denver cinema massacre tweeted her excitement about the screening just minutes before she was murdered.

Sportscaster Jessica Redfield, who had only recently moved to the Colorado capital from Texas, tweeted that she was set to attend the midnight viewing after she persuaded a friend to come with her.

“Never thought I’d have to coerce a guy into seeing the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises with me.” Later she posted: “[I] actually won the argument. He’s going.”

Her final tweet was to her friend Jesse Spector, saying that the screening was going to start in 20 minutes.

Mr Spector later paid tribute to his friend, saying that the world is worse off without her.

“Words are useless. Guns more so. If you ever had any interaction with Jessica Redfield, you know the world is much worse off without her. Don’t know what else to say other than send my best to the families of [Jessica] and the other victims.”

Just last month, Ms Redfield narrowly avoided a shooting in a Toronto shopping centre. In her last blog post, Ms Redfield described how her life changed by narrowly avoiding the shooting.

“I was reminded that we don’t know when or where our time on Earth will end. When or where we will breathe our last breath,” she wrote.

“It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around how a weird feeling saved me from being in the middle of a deadly shooting.” Home
