Price war club bosses ‘above the law’

Clubowners in a price war in Bundoran, Co Donegal, were accused yesterday of believing they were “above the law”.
Solicitor Cathleen Dolan said Paris nightclub boss Conor McEniff was in contempt of court because he failed to obey an order two weeks ago to sell his drink at commercial prices.She told Ballyshannon District Court he sold shorts last weekend for €2.
Two weeks ago, the price war between Mr McEniff and his cousin Seanie McEniff, who runs Jumpin Jacks club, became an issue before Judge Kevin Kilrane when there was an application for a late night licence.
The judge was told Conor McEniff was offering drinks at 50c while his cousin was serving “free drink” in return for a €20 entry fee.
Inspector Dennis Joyce said gardaí carried out an inspection at Paris. They were told the €2 price was the same as was charged at weekends for two years.
Ms Dolan, representing parents concerned about their 18 and 19-year-olds getting drink so cheaply, said: “These people feel they are above the law.”
Judge Kilrane warned he would be reviewing pricing at the annual licensing court in September.
