Hacked off: Website sabotage

FINE GAEL’S new website was hacked last night to display a message stating “nothing is safe, you put your faith in this political party and they take no measures to protect you.”

The hack is credited to Anonymous, an online protest community which calls itself “a leaderless movement” working tirelessly to oppose internet censorship worldwide.

The message on Fine Gael’s new website goes on to say “they offer you free speech yet they censor your voice. Wake up.”

Forums such as Twitter and Politics.ie were last night hopping with speculation about how it was done and why.

The incident will be another source of embarrassment for the party following the posting of satirical version of Enda Kenny’s campaigning video — also from the new site — appearing on YouTube last week.
