Mamma Mia to find new home at Marquee

Saturday, November 21, 2009

THE biggest show in town is coming to Cork and it will have ABBA fans dancing in the isles.

It’s confirmed that the international tour of Mamma Mia will play at the Marquee from two weeks from July 20 next.

The musical is based on the storytelling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs and writer Catherine Johnson’s enchanting tale of family and friendship unfolds on a Greek island paradise.

On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago

From West End smash to global phenomenon the musical has already been seen by more than 40 million people in more than 190 cities across North America, Australasia, Europe and Asia.

It has already grossed about 2 billion at the box office worldwide.

The original London production opened in 1999, but now the international tour is in its fifth year

With music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia is written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast.

Tickets, priced from €32.90, for the Marquee event will go on sale next Thursday, November 26.

Meanwhile, it has been announced the comedian Dara O’Briain will play Live at the Marquee on Friday July 2, 2010.

Tickets sales are also expected to be very brisk for this as O’Briain’s popularity was recently witnessed by 40 sell-out shows at Vicar Street, Dublin.
