Artists seek record breaking naked truth

Hundreds of people have signed up to strip off for a world-record- breaking naked body- painting attempt in Cork this weekend.

Organisers are bidding to break the record for most people body-painted at the same time— 264 people — set by Living Art in New York in 2007.

And, by last night, just over 500 people had signed up for the Cork event on Saturday.

Organiser Keira O’Connell said people are coming from England, Scotland, Germany, and all over Ireland to take part, and if everyone who’s registered turns up, the record will be smashed.

“This is a final call for people to get naked,” she said.

“We often see a 10% drop-out rate in the last few days due to nerves.

“But I would urge people to get on board or they’ll miss out.

“This will be a once-off world record attempt and this will be their only opportunity to get involved in a mass body painting event.”

She said the eventwill take place in a safe, secure environment and within a supportive community atmosphere in Camden Palace on Camden Quay.

About 100 body-painting artists will be on stand-by to paint the volunteers in staggered time slots.

Photographs will then be taken as proof for the adjudicators at the Guinness World Records office.

Ms O’Connell said there is a serious element to the record-breaking attempt too which she hopes will help to promote positive body image.

“In modern society, we have a warped image of what beauty is,” she said.

“We hope to change that perception so that people can see that their body is beautiful — in all shapes and forms.

“When you’re standing in front of mirror at home on your own, you can often have a distorted image of yourself.

“But when you’re standing in a group of naked people, of all shapes and sizes, you notice that nobody’s perfect, and then you can start to see your good features.”

The World Naked Bike Ride takes place in Cork later in the day with up to 150 cyclists due to saddle up and set off from Camden Palace for a cycle around the city. Home
