500 jobs on offer for UL students

Up to 500 high-paid jobs were on offer yesterday for students at the University of Limerick as 124 companies went headhunting on campus.

The companies were attending the UL Careers Fair, where more than 3,000 students met with potential employers to discuss the jobs on offer.

Already this year more than 2,500 job offers have been made to UL students and graduates through the college’s careers office.

A survey of UL’s 2011 graduates showed 88% had either found work or were pursuing further studies.

Gavin Connell, head of careers at UL, said: “The annual careers fair, now in its 13th year, is an ideal opportunity for students to find out who the key UL employers are, what types of jobs are available, and what kind of skills employers are looking for.

“Job prospects are good for UL students and graduates. Traditionally UL’s graduate employment figures trend well above the national average. ”

UL president Don Barry said doctoral students were very much in demand, with 86% of last year’s PhD graduates in employment. “The growing number of employers actively recruiting UL graduates through this careers fair is testament to the high esteem in which our graduates are held. UL graduates have shown themselves to be ready for the workplace and highly skilled.” Home
