Tullamore’s big team to weather show fears

A labour force of 470 are striving to overcome the summer washout and ensure that one of Ireland’s top agricultural shows goes ahead successfully.

The Tullamore and AIB National Livestock Show, which attracts attendances of up to 60,000, takes place on Sunday, Aug 12, at the Butterfield Estate in the Co Offaly town. The event recently won the Midlandsireland.ie Best Cultural Tourism Award for 2012.

It will feature 1,000 exhibitors competing for a prize fund of €165,000 in all areas from livestock to bloodstock, home industries, dogs, inventions, poultry, best dressed lady, glamorous granny etc.

The weather conditions are being monitored by the show committee, which will use more than two kilometres of tracking and pathways for the convenience of the public.

The first marquees were erected this week at the show site.
