Talks on EIB’s Irish investment plans

Dublin: The vice-president of the European Investment Bank will be in Dublin on Monday for meetings with Finance Minister Brian Lenihan, former Central Bank governor John Hurley, Transport Minister Noel Dempsey and other officials.

The talks aim to see how the EIB can best support Ireland and ensure continued investment in key infrastructure during challenging times.

The EIB, the bank of the European Union, provides long-term finance for investment which supports European objectives.

Last year saw a record level of European Investment Bank activity in Ireland, with over €1.02 billion provided.

In the five years from 2005 to 2009 the EIB supported over €2.8bn worth of projects across the energy, transport, water and education sectors as well as strong support for SMEs.
