Hot deal: 58-acre quality Ovens farm guiding at €15,000 per acre
For this 58-acre farm at Ballygroman, Killumney, he’s again looking for offers in the region of, or in excess of, the €15,000 per acre which was the guide price at the Ovens auction.
The agent is prepared to sell the entire or in two lots: the first is 31.97 acres, the other is 25.97 acres. Both lots have frontage onto the Cork-Cloghduv road, although in the case of lot 1, that’s just a double gate; lot 2 has much better road frontage.
Either way, the land is terrific, asserts Lynch, who says although it’s in a different townland, it’s only a mile and a half from the 30-acre tillage ground at Ovens, and is quality soil. “It’s all reseeded, and has been extremely well maintained over the years. This ground is so good, you could cut silage this minute. We’re quoting €15,000 per acre, and after the last sale, we’ll see where it goes. The last sale was a record for the year, and we hope we’ll do another one on this.”
“It’s only up for sale, and we’ve had an awful lot of enquiries — but it’s a sweet piece of ground.”
Despite high demand in the area, it’s unlikely the 58 acres will make as much as the three fields immediately next door, which were sold in the run up to the economic boom’s peak for €5 million — and that for just eight acres.
The Ballygroman, Ovens farm is due up for auction on March 21 at the Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig.
