European markets volatile

Markets across Europe lacked a definite trend yesterday as some of the major bourses made slight headway while others weakened further.

Newsflow from the US earnings season was mixed and dampened investor’s appetite. Apple shares were off by as much as 5% as third-quarter earnings came in behind market expectations, however this disappointment was slightly offset but full year earnings upgrades from Caterpillar and Boeing. The Iseq index shipped 8.88 points to 3,062.92.

Irish banks were relatively solid as AIB added 0.2c or 4.2% to finish at 4.9c. Permanent TSB Group was steady at 9c while Bank of Ireland was among the better performing stocks, adding 0.3c to 9c.

Constructions stocks were mixed as CRH gave up a small amount of Tuesday’s gains, losing 3c to €14.66. Kingspan and Grafton Group gained 8.7c and 3c to €6.62 and €2.73.Home
