The Society of the Irish Industry has welcomed the decision by Government to implement a scrappage scheme to stimulate the 2010 motor trade.
Director general of SIMI, Alan Nolan, said: "It gives our members an incentive to offer to customers who, this time last year had little cause for confidence. "
SIMI President Mike Finlay said: "This new scrappage incentive, allied to the reduction in the VAT rate, will renew confidence among motor retailers.
"Based on our experience of the last scrappage scheme I have no doubt that it will be a success, with the added benefit of improving Ireland’s environmental performance as older cars will be replaced by new environmentally friendly vehicles."
