Semi-state companies to decide themselves on pay cuts

Taoiseach Brian Cowen said today that it is up to semi-state companies to decide themselves on pay cuts within their organisations.

He made the remarks after the Communications Minister said the pay of semi-state workers will be discussed at tomorrow's Cabinet meeting.

However, unions in companies like the ESB, and CIE are threatening industrial action if any moves to cut pay are announced.
