Government moves forward with Budget

The Government won the first crucial votes of Budget 2010 last night.

Cuts to VAT and the price of alcohol, while increasing petrol and diesel with a carbon tax were passed in the Dáil.

The Government will today begin the process of implementing the €760m cuts in social welfare.

The reductions in child benefit and dole payments will be the most controversial.

All changes to social welfare will be passed by the Dáil by this evening.
